Kids Volleyball Program in Germany

A project of the Bavarian Volleyball Federation

The project „Volleyball in elementary schools” is a cooperation between the Bavarian Volleyball Federation (BVV) and the Ministry of School in Bavaria. On the initiative of Mr. Klaus Drauschke, the president of the BVV, the project started in March 2011. The main intention is to motivate the kids as well as the teachers to play volleyball in school and finally increase the memberships in volleyball clubs.

The project is divided into three different parts. The first part, beginning in March 2011 and lasting until June 2012, is primarily concerned with teacher education. Therefore the BVV engaged a professional volleyball teacher. Mr. Roland Höfer visits during this time almost 100 elementary schools all over Bavaria and give a methodic and theoretical volleyball lesson. All elementary schools as well as volleyball clubs in the closer neighbourhood are invited to join, so that he could reach as many teachers and coaches as possible. For this lesson he is equipped with light Mikasa volleyballs (MVA 123SL) to show the teachers/coaches the most suitable volleyball for kids in elementary age.

The next step is called the multiplicator training which took place end of February 2012 in the Sports School of the Bavarian Sport Confederation.

Overall 80 selected teachers were educated over three days in specific manners with the intention that they will finally be able to educate teachers in their regions on their own. With this multiplicatory training the teacher education in volleyball will cover the region of whole Bavaria.

The third and the last part of the project will focus on the kids. The teachers are well educated and know how to teach volleyball by then. The target for the kids is the DVJ elementary school competition, where they can show their talents respetively their volleyball tasks. In each region there will be a school competition as a qualifier for the big bavarian elementary school final.
